Rebuilt Washington opens the season under new coach Danny Sprinkle on Tuesday when it hosts UC Davis in men’s college basketball.
Washington will have a new-look roster this season as it enters the Big Ten and gets its first test on Tuesday night when it hosts UC Davis at Alaska Airlines Arena in Seattle. The Huskies finished 17-15 last season and fired coach Mike Hopkins, replacing him with Danny Sprinkle, who was 28-7 in his lone season at Utah State last season. Washington hasn’t been to the NCAA tournament since 2019, its last postseason appearance. Jim Les is 195-199 in 13 seasons leading the Aggies, with an NCAA tournament berth in 2017. They were 20-13 last season, losing in the Big West Conference tournament championship game to Long Beach State.

The rest of the projected lineup are transfers, led by Mountain West Conference Player of the Year Great Osobor, who followed Sprinkle from Utah State. The forward averaged 17.7 points and 9.0 rebounds last season. The other projected starters include transfer guard Mekhi Mason (Rice), guard DJ Davis (Butler), who led the nation in free throw percentage last season, and guard Tyree Ihenacho (North Dakota).
UC Davis retained guard TY Johnson, who averaged 17.8 points per game last season before entering the transfer portal and bring back 10 players from last season. But they lost leading scorer Elijah Pepper to graduation.
