The 2024 Hong Kong Open heads into the second day of action on Wednesday with the best badminton players in the world.
This year the Hong Kong Open is wide open in every draw after some of the top players in the sport withdrew from the tournament. In the men’s draw top-seeded Shi Yuqi and fourth-seeded Li Shifeng, both from China, had to withdraw from the tournament, opening the door for the other six entries and two qualifiers to make a run towards a championship. Over in the women’s draw, second-seeded Wang Zhiyi, also from China, withdrew from the tournament. Those withdrawals and a few others will also have an impact on the top teams in men’s, women’s and mixed doubles as well.

The top-seed in the women’s singles draw, Tai Tzu-ying from Chinese Taipei, has a path to win the 2024 Hong Kong Open. She started her run with a win over replacement and qualifier Isabelle Rusli from the United States, advancing to face-off with Putri Kusuma Wardani from Indonesia today.
In the women’s draw the next highest remaining seed is Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, who came in as the fourth-seed in the draw. They would not face off until the championship, with Tzu-ying representing the top half of the bracket and Tunjung in the bottom half of the draw.
