SEC Tournament play continues on Tuesday afternoon with a quarterfinal matchup between LSU and Texas.
On Tuesday afternoon, 11th-seeded LSU and third-seeded Texas will take to the pitch at the Ashton Brosnahan Soccer Complex in Pensacola, Florida for a quarterfinal matchup in SEC Tournament play. The Tigers made it through to Tuesday’s contest with a 2-1 victory over sixth-seeded Auburn on Sunday afternoon. The upset saw Gabbi Ceballos and Mollie Baker each scoring their first goals of the season to take a 2-0 lead in the second half after playing a scoreless first. Auburn cut the lead in half in the 77th minute of play, but a strong LSU defense anchored by Sophine Kevorkian in net allowed the Tigers to hold on and advance to quarterfinal round.

The Longhorns finished regular season play with an overall record of 13-3-2 and a conference record of 6-3-1 which had them finishing in third place and earning a first round bye. The team brings a two-game win streak into tournament play with the most recent being a 1-0 win over Georgia to close out conference play. Lexi Missimo found the back of the net for the 12th time this season to lift her team to a win over the Bulldogs while Mia Justus made three saves in net to earn her tenth clean sheet of the 2024 campaign. The team should bring fresh legs into Tuesday’s game as it has not stepped foot on the pitch for a contest since October 27th. While that should be an advantage, there is the chance that the Tigers can catch the Longhorns sleeping and put in an early goal to control the match.
When Texas and LSU met during the regular season, the Longhorns earned a 3-1 victory on the road. Amalia Villareal, Jilly Shimkin and Lexi Missimo scored for Texas while Andrea Iljkic buried a penalty kick to give the Tigers their lone goal.
