Zuby Ejiofor and No. 22 ranked St. John’s will take the court against Dai Dai Ames and Virginia in the consolation game on Friday night.
St. John’s will stay in Nassau in the Bahamas on Friday night to take on Virginia in the consolation game of the Baha Mar Hoops Bahamas Championship at the Baha Mar Convention Center. The Red Storm came into this game undefeated with a 4-0 record. The No. 22 ranked team in the nation took on the No. 13-ranked Baylor in the first round of this four-team, two-game tournament. Their first-round matchup ended as probably the game of the year to date, even though St. John’s lost by one point on a game-winning three in double overtime.
After being up 14 points at the half, St. John’s allowed Baylor to bounce back in the second half and draw it even at the end of regulation. It was even again after the first overtime, sending it to a second where Baylor would win 99-98 on a game-winning three. Zuby Ejiofor led the team with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Aaron Scott came off the bench and dropped 20 points as well despite averaging just 9.3 points per game this season.
The Cavaliers came into this game with an undefeated 3-0 record through the first two weeks. Prior to this game, they took down Campbell, Coppin State, and Villanova. They matched up with the No. 11 ranked team in the country, Tennessee, in the first round and took a crushing defeat, 64-42. They were only down on point at the halftime break, but Tennessee exploded for 42 points in the second half.
Dai Dai Ames, the sophomore transfer from Kansas State, finished the game with 12 points and two rebounds as the only player in double figures. Andrew Rohde, who is in his second year with Virginia, had eight points and three assists off the bench in 28 minutes.
