For the second time this season, the future of the NBA faces off with a living legend. The San Antonio Spurs (10-8) are riding high right now as the winners of four straight and six of the last eight games to put themselves in the playoff mix early in the season. They host the Los Angeles Lakers (10-7) who are moving in the other direction losing three straight. With another win San Antonio would pass Los Angeles in the standings and join the logjam of teams in the Western Conference all contending for a playoff spot. Los Angeles was able to hold off San Antonio down the stretch for the 120-115 win. San Antonio took a 107-106 lead with 4:28 remaining in the fourth quarter, but the trio of Davis, LeBron James and Austin Reaves took over scoring the final 14 points to secure the win.
Davis led all scorers with 40 points and 12 rebounds, James finished with a triple-double (15 points, 16 rebounds and 12 assists) while Reaves quietly added 19 points and six assists on 5-9 shooting from three.
In the loss San Antonio was led by Wembanyama’s 28 points. That loss was a turning point for San Antonio as rookie Stephon Castle started his best stretch of the season with 22 points, leading him averaging 17.3 points and 5.0 assists per game over the last six games overall giving the team one of the best young duos in the league.B
