Last season Latvia finished with just one win in group play and three losses. They scored just six goals and allowed 22 to opponents, the second most of any team in the tournament overall.

In Latvia’s match to Canada it was raced off the ice from the puck drop. They gave up 10 goals and were blanked in the loss. The 10 goals allowed were the second most in a group play match and the margin of victory was by far the largest.

For Canada, it is looking to make another run at the medal table after a disappointing run last year. Canada scored the second most goals and allowed the second fewest in group play. Then, in the shock of the tournament, Canada was eliminated in the quarterfinals by Czechia 3-2 after falling behind 2-0 in the first period and watching the deciding goal cross the net with just 70 seconds left in regulation.
