New and Returning Sports
The Paris 2024 Organizing Committee has introduced some exciting changes to the Olympic program:
Breaking (Breakdancing): Making its Olympic debut, breaking will bring street dance culture to the world’s biggest sporting stage.
Skateboarding, Sport Climbing, and Surfing: These three sports, which debuted at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, will return for the Paris Games.
Changes to Existing Sports
Some existing Olympic sports will see modifications in their event lineup:
- Weightlifting: Four events have been removed from the program.
- Canoeing: Two sprint events have been replaced with two slalom events, maintaining a total of 16 events.
- Sport Climbing: The previous “combined” event has been split into separate speed climbing and boulder and lead disciplines for each gender.
