India and New Zealand hit the field on Thursday for a Group A match in the 2024 ICC Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup. The two teams are joined by Australia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the group as they try and advance to the next stage of the tournament. They will play each team once in group play starting on Thursday. The two teams have had similar success in previous Women’s T20 Cricket World Cups as they have both made eight appearances and 36 matches. India has compiled a 20-16 career record, while New Zealand has a 24-12 all-time record. They both have a best finish of runner-up with India doing it most recently in 2020, but New Zealand has done it twice in 2009 and 2010. They are both still chasing the powerhouse Australian team who has won six total titles. The only other two countries to win was England in 2009 and the West Indies in 2016.

India is coming off a semifinal berth in 2023 and are looking to make it back to the finals for the first time since 2020.
The Indian team has been good the last three tournaments as they have finished in the top four in each. The three straight top-four finishes comes after they had failed to get out of the first round in the previous three tournaments.
New Zealand hasn’t been as good lately as it has failed to get out of the first round in each of the las three tournaments. That comes after they had finished in the top four in four of the first five tournaments.
They are hoping for a better showing this year as they look to make another run at the semifinals again this year.
