Australia’s hopes of qualifying for the T20 World Cup semifinals are hanging by a thread after Jonathan Trott’s Afghanistan beat Australia for the first time ever.
Australia must now beat unbeaten India to have any hope of qualification for the last four. Even that may not be enough though if Afghanistan beats Bangladesh heavily in its last game of the Super Eight.
India has beaten Afghanistan and Bangladesh but is not mathematically through to the last four yet either. However, the country’s undefeated run continued on Saturday after a win over Bangladesh by 50 runs. For India to move forward, it simply needs to beat Australia or avoid a heavy defeat. Its superior net run rate (+2.425) puts the team in a spot where it is all but through to the semifinals.
