The U17 women’s national team of Spain will take on England in a semifinal matchup of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup at Estadio Olímpico Félix Sánchez in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, on Thursday afternoon. England and Spain are two countries that know each other all too well. England came into the tournament as a member of Group C and was the runner-up in that group with a 2-0-1 record, beating Kenya and Mexico and losing to Korea DPR. England took on Japan, the winner of Group D, with a 2-1-0 record, beating Zambia and Brazil and drawing with Poland. Japan scored in the 23rd minute, followed by Erica Parkinson knotting it even in the 27th minute. Japan scored again just two minutes later, taking a 2-1 lead into the break. Zara Shaw went on to score the game-tying goal in the 72nd minute, sending the game to extra time. England ended up winning 4-1 on penalties, sending it to the semifinals today.

Spain came into the tournament as a part of Group B and won the group in three straight games not losing one. It beat the United States, Colombia, and South Korea with a goal differential of eight. Spain was matched up with Ecuador in the quarterfinals, the first round of the knockout stage. Ecuador was the runner-up in Group A with a 2-0-1 record in the three group games.
Spain went on to win the game 5-0 in dominant fashion. Pau Comendador had a day scoring three goals in the 35th minute to open up scoring and in the 39th minute to send Spain into the break up 2-0. Comendador came out of the break and scored again just one minute into the second half for her hat trick. Celia Segura scored the two final goals just five minutes apart both in 90-minute stoppage time.
