The match is extra important considering the other two teams in the group, Mexico and Jamaica, are no pushovers, particularly Mexico, which has historically been a strong side, although it is going through of a bit of a rebuild at the moment. Venezuela currently boasts one of its strongest teams in its history, with various players suiting up in European clubs professionally. Ecuador likewise boasts a good side, so this should be a fun matchup.

Venezuela enters this match in tough form, not having won a game since October 2023, though three of the matches since then were draws, and one of the defeats was a solid 2-1 loss against a much stronger Italian side. Ecuador, meanwhile, has won its last two matches, a 3-1 win over Bolivia and a 2-1 win over Honduras heading into tonight’s match. Venezuela most recently unimpressively drew 0-0 with lowly Guatemala.
The last time Venezuela and Ecuador faced off was in November of 2023, a 0-0 draw in an important World Cup qualifier matchup.
