How to Watch 76ers vs. Timberwolves: Stream NBA Live, TV Channel

    0

Anthony Edwards and the Minnesota Timberwolves host Paul George and the Philadelphia 76ers in NBA preseason play on Friday.

The world will get their first look at Paul George in action for the Philadelphia 76ers as they take on the Minnesota Timberwolves in both teams’ second preseason game. Tyrese Maxey played alone in the first game, but Paul George is making his debut, while the third star in this trio, Joel Embiid, did not travel with the team. The addition of George to the Maxey-Embiid pairing gives Philadelphia another scorer, playmaker and star to make a run to the NBA Finals for the first time in over 20 years. Bringing George to Philadelphia gives the team a six-time All-NBA and nine-time All-Star who has shined as the star of a franchise and as the complement to bigger stars during his career.

Last season George averaged 22.6 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists in 74 games. That was his ninth straight season averaging more than 20 points per game and third time in five years where he shot over 40 percent from three-point range.

For Minnesota, it is still waiting for the debut of Julius Randle, who was acquired in the blockbuster Karl-Anthony Towns trade. Donte DiVincenzo, the other addition in that move, did play in the preseason opener, scoring 11 points on perfect shooting. The veteran guard went 4-for-4 from the field and 3-for-3 from three in the win, adding two rebounds and an assist in 10 minutes.

Rookies Rob Dillingham (21 points and four assists) and Terrence Shannon Jr. (14 points, five assists and four rebounds) both played well off the bench. Fourth year big man Luka Garza (20 points and nine rebounds) also did and third year forward Josh Minott (22 points on 4-of-6 shooting from three) in Minnesota’s 124-107 win over the Los Angeles Lakers.

UConn hockey tries to keep its undefeated start going on Friday night during a trip to Worcester to take on Holy Cross.

UConn (2-0-0, 0-0-0 Hockey East) had a successful start to the 2024-2025 season last weekend. The Huskies were at home and swept Colgate, with wins of 4-2 and 6-2. It was a good first step for a Huskies team coming off of a 15-19-2 season. Junior forward Jake Percival led the way for the Huskies, with three goals and an assist over those two games. Junior goalie Tyler Muszelik started both games and stopped 50 of the 54 shots he faced. The Huskies will now look to continue that strong start as they play their first road game of the year, at Holy Cross (0-1-0, 0-0-0 AHA) on Friday night in the first game of what is a home-and-home series this weekend. These two games will be the final two ‘tune-ups’ for UConn before conference play begins next week.

This is the second year the Huskies and Crusaders will play an early season home-and-home series. Last year the Crusaders upset the then-No. 20 Huskies with a sweep, winning 2-1 and 2-0.

Northeastern comes into the season with high conference expectations. After reaching the conference championship game as a two-seed and losing to top-seed UConn, the Huskies were picked to finish in second place in this year’s preseason poll, and are the only team that got votes besides UConn. On the other side, BU was picked to finish sixth in the conference.

Boston University has already played one conference game – the Terriers began the season with a lone home game against Merrimack last Tuesday. BU won that game 7-1. Then last weekend, the Terriers were swept by No. 2 Minnesota in Minneapolis.

Last year, BU and Northeastern played each other four times – all during the regular season. The Huskies won all four of those matchups, with two of them going to overtime. That includes a meeting in the Women’s Beanpot Championship, which Northeastern took 2-1 on a goal 27 seconds into the extra session.

Ohio State dropped to 9-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play for a spot in fourth place in the Big Ten standings. Against the Wolverines, the Buckeye offense produced eight shots with four on frame, but could not find the back of the cage. A goal off of a rebound for the Wolverines in the third quarter proved too much for the Buckeyes to overcome. With only one shot in the fourth quarter, the team couldn’t find the equalizer. Abby Danson played the full game in goal for Ohio State and made two saves to keep her team in the game.

Penn State leads the all-time series against the Buckeyes 43-16-2. The last time the team’s met was in the first round of the Big Ten Tournament last season, where Ohio State won 4-3 in a thrilling overtime victory.

Montenegro travels to Turkey on Friday in the UEFA Nations League desperate to end its four-loss streak. Watch the game live and for free on Fubo.

Turkey has a chance to open some daylight at the summit of its UEFA Nations League group when Montenegro come to the Samsun 19 Mayis Stadium on Friday. The Crescent Stars are already in prime position to collect the top spot in Group B3 as it sits first in the pecking order, with a neck in front of Wales on goal difference after each winning once and drawing once in the competition to date. Montenegro has never managed to beat Turkey in four meetings to date, but putting an end to that drought in Samsun would revive the country’s Nations League hopes.

The only team yet to score a point in Group B3, Montenegro, is already in what appears to be a struggle against the tide if it’s to avoid automatic relegation to the third tier of the Nations League.

Turkey, on the other hand, is unbeaten in two since exiting Euro 2024’s last 16 at the hands of the Netherlands, where Vincenzo Montella’s men had the game in their hands before crumbling later on.

Star winger Kerem Akturkoglu was the man of the moment, as Turkey collected its first Nations League win against Iceland last time out, bagging a hat-trick en route to a 3-1 victory.

And the Crescent Stars will once again look to the Benfica forward for inspiration in Samsun, with only Hakan Calhanoglu having scored more international goals among the current Turkey squad.

Montenegro captain Stevan Jovetic has scored more international goals than both of those players combined (36) and will be the key danger man for Friday’s underdog.

The Magyars sit at the bottom of the table for the time being and haven’t managed to beat the Netherlands since 1982. Rossi & Co managed to piece together an incredible 14-game unbeaten run before a shock defeat to the Republic of Ireland in the build-up to Euro 2024.

A single group win over Scotland wasn’t sufficient to reach the knockout stages in Germany, and the Magyars have looked similarly goal-shy in the Nations League having failed to score after two games.

Robin van Persie bagged a hat-trick when the Netherlands walloped Hungary 8-1 in their most recent encounter during qualifying for the 2014 World Cup.

And unlike Hungary, the goals have been flying for Ronald Koeman’s side of late, scoring seven across their two Nations League outings thus far and drawing 2-2 with Germany last time out.

Koeman will be without the likes of Nathan Ake, Jurrien Timber, Teun Koopmeiners and Frenkie de Jong due to injury, but the Oranje should have enough in reserve to continue their unbeaten run.

Santa Clara put all the pressure on the Dons in the five set match between the teams. It came out with wins in the first and third sets, forcing the Dons to dig deep and pull out only its second five-set victory this season.

Last season the teams split their two regular season matches. The Dons won the first at home in a 3-1 competitive match. The Pilots jumped out to a one set lead in the beginning, before the Dons won the next three. It was not an easy win with the fourth set only decided by the slimmest margin of 29-27.

Then in the second match the Pilots evened the season series at home with a five-set thriller. Once again they jumped out to a lead, winning the first two sets, before the Dons stormed back to tie the match. If this week’s match is anything like last season’s matches, this will be another epic rivalry match.

After opening the season with a loss to Alabama, the Hilltoppers rolled off three wins in a row. That included their lone C-USA conference win to this point, a 49-21 road game against Middle Tennessee State. Then Western Kentucky went on the road for Power Four matchup against Boston College and came up short after blowing a late lead. The Hilltoppers had two weeks to sit on that loss due to a bye week, and now return to action for their first home conference game of the year when they welcome UTEP (0-5. 0-2 C-USA) to Houchens Industries-L.T. This season Carleton is averaging 18.6 points per game against New York. That is nearly double her regular season average overall. Carleton shot 13-20 from three in those three wins playing her best basketball of the season against the best team in the league. In the one loss to New York this season Carleton finished 0-1 from three with just one point.

Wright, the 29-year-old Toronto native, is in his second season with York scoring a career-high nine goals for the Nine Stripes this season and has 24 goals in four seasons in the CPL.

Pacific has struggled to score this season ranking eighth in the league with 24 goals, but did receive a boost with the acquisition of Moses Dyer who scored in four straight games in September being named the CPL’s Player of the Month award. Dyer has eight goals on the season, split evenly between Vancouver and Pacific, and is also within striking distance of taking the Golden Boot.

Pacific leads the all-time series 8-7-7 with the season series deadlocked at 1-1-1 as both teams have earned 2-0 home wins. York United has only won one of the last seven home matches against Pacific dating back to July of 2019.

The Scarlet Knights got off to a strong start this season and are currently 8-1-3 overall with an undefeated record of 4-0-2 in conference play. The team’s only loss came against a surprising UMass squad early on, but since then, they have played nine games without being beaten and have only conceded two goals. In their last two games, the Scarlet Knights have played No. 1 Michigan State and No. 19 Penn State with both games resulting in 1-1 draws. Against the Nittany Lions, Rutgers was forced to play from behind after Penn State scored in the first five minutes. The game was 1-0 at halftime, but just two minutes into the second half, Shaela Bradley netted her third goal of the season to tie things up. Penn State’s offense hammered Olivia Bodmer in net with 20 shots in the match, but her career-high tying nine saves kept her team in the game and allowed them to stay undefeated in Big Ten play.

Last season saw these two teams meeting in Lincoln in the middle of the season and they battled to a 2-2 draw. All four of the goal scorers from that match have graduated leaving room for newcomers to find the back of the net in this year’s contest.

NFL Week 6 kicks off on Thursday night with a divisional matchup between the San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks.

A Super Bowl favorite coming into the season, the San Francisco 49ers (2-3) find themselves under .500 midway through October. To make things more frustrating, in two of their last three games Kyle Shanahan’s team let by multiple scores in the second half, only to end up losing that lead late. That includes last week when they led the Arizona Cardinals 23-10 at halftime and 23-13 at the start of the fourth quarter in what ended up being a 24-23 loss. The team doesn’t have much time to dwell on that loss, as they now go on the road on a short week, visiting the Seattle Seahawks (3-2) for an NFC West matchup on Thursday Night Football to kick off Week 6. Horvat has tallied three consecutive 30-goal seasons including a career-high 38 in 2022-23 when he was acquired at the trade deadline from Vancouver. The 29-year old was a first round selection by the Canucks in the 2013 NHL Draft and tallied his 500th career point late last year.

Though not technically an expansion franchise, Utah has 14 players on tonight’s roster who played for Arizona last season alongside coach Andre Tourigny who saw a 13-point improvement between his first and second years at the helm of the Coyotes franchise. Given the successes of other recent expansion clubs in Vegas and Seattle, it is not out of the realm of possibility Utah makes the postseason this year.

The Heat’s rookie class is headlined by Kel’el Ware, who has the talent to be Miami’s center of the future. Keep an eye on him throughout the preseason as he looks to establish himself as a key rotational piece.

The Hawks finished 36-46 last season, sneaking into the Play-In Tournament but ultimately not having success. After trading Dejounte Murray in the offseason, this is a new-look team but Trae Young is still at the helm. It should be another breakout season for Jalen Johnson as well, who is a rising star in this league.

Miami went 46-36 last season, but that was only good enough to earn the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference. In the 2024-25 campaign, the Heat will be lookin to land a top-six seed to avoid the Play-In Tournament altogether.

The New Jersey Devils are already off to a better start to any team in the league when they face off against the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday. The Devils have already played two games this season and won them both easily against the Buffalo Sabres. Both teams kicked off the regular season in the NHL Global Series playing the first two games in Prague, Czech Republic. The first game was a breeze even the Devils only got 23 shots compared with Buffalo’s 31. New Jersey still won the game 4-1 with Johnathan Kovacevic notching a goal and adding an assist. But it was real masterwork from goalie Jacob Markstrom who stopped 30 shots. New Jersey came back the very next day on Saturday and made it look easy once again beating Buffalo 3-1. This time the Sabres scored first with a Tage Thompson goal midway through the second period. But the Devils came back with a fury scoring three unanswered and outshooting Buffalo 37-18 to already win the season series.

These Original Six rivals face off against one another on Thursday in the first home game for the Boston Bruins.

The Montreal Canadiens are off to a good start to the season and play their first road game of the year when they travel to face off against the Boston Bruins on Thursday. The Canadiens beat their Canadian Original Six rival in their season opener on Wednesday beating the Toronto Maple Leafs in a 1-0 shutout. The biggest reason the Habs are coming into this road matchup is simply because of goalie Sam Montembeault. He looked like he was in mid-season form from the jump on Wednesday against Toronto. Montembeault stopped all 48 shots to easily win the game’s first star. Toronto goalie Anthony Stolarz played great and earned the second star making 26 saves which should have been enough to win the game. Cole Caufield made sure that Montembeault’s heroics wouldn’t go to waste. Caufield scored on the power play early in the first period which accounted for all of the game’s offense. Montreal is going to have to create many more opportunities if it is going to pull of this road upset against Boston.

Pavel Zacha kept Boston in it with a shorthanded goal late in the period but the Panthers ended up scoring four in the first with Sam Bennett scoring two of those. Florida went up 5-1 in Boston’s biggest deficit which was just too much to come back from. All Boston could do from there was make the final score look closer than it actually was. ACC women’s college soccer action continues Thursday night as No. 25 Virginia hosts NC State.

NC State will take a trip to Charlottesville on Thursday night for an ACC matchup against No. 25 Virginia as the Wolf Pack look to pull off the upset. NC State has struggled a bit this year and bring a two-game losing streak into Thursday’s contest. The team is 3-8-2 overall and is still winless in ACC play at 0-4-1. Last week, the Wolf Pack hosted Boston College. While they were able to keep the game close, the Wolf Pack ultimately fell in a 2-1 defeat. The lone goal was scored by Jade Bordeleau in the 55th minute to even the score at 1-1, but the Eagles were able to put in the game winner with 14 minutes remaining on the clock. Olivia Pratapas played the full game in net for NC State and made two saves, but it wasn’t enough and the team was forced to walk away with another conference loss.

The Cavaliers got off to a strong start this season, quickly climbing the rankings to No. 2 by the time conference play began. Things have been cooling off for Virginia, however, and after four straight losses, the Cavaliers will look to get back on track Thursday night with a win on Senior Night. In its last match, the team took on No. 2 Duke (now No. 1), playing to a 3-1 loss on the road. The Blue Devils were able to put three goals in the net before Virginia’s Meredith McDermott finally scored, but with that goal coming in the 80th minute, it was too big of a deficit for the team to make up. Victoria Safradin saw 13 shots in the game with five being on frame and she was able to make two saves in the contest.

Both Virginia and NC State desperately need to get back in the win column as there are only five games remaining in the regular season. The last time these two programs met was last season. As it began to wind down NC State earned a 2-1 victory at home.
