Światek and Gauff nearly met at the 2018 French Open junior final, before the now 21-year-old Pole lost in the semifinal. The young American then won the tournament defeating Caty McNally in the final.
However, at the adult level, Światek is now the No. 1 ranked player in the world and has already won a French Open title, winning the 2020 edition of the tournament after beating American Sofia Kenin in the final in straight sets.
When Światek and Gauff last faced each other at the Miami Open in March, the young Pole defeated the young American 6-3, 6-1 in the round of 16 matchup.
