James Madison is coming off of its first loss of the year, in upset fashion. The Dukes visited Louisiana-Monroe last week. They fell 21-19 to a Warhawks team that was initially picked to finish in last place in the Sun Belt. That was the conference opener for the Dukes.

Coastal also opened up conference play last week, and picked up a 45-37 win at home over Old Dominion. Quarterback Ethan Vasko lit it up through the air, completing 19 of his 26 pass attempts for 367 yards and three touchdowns. Cameron Wright was his top receiver, catching four passes for 148 yards and a touchdown.

This is the second year in a row these teams will meet with James Madison coming off a big loss. The Dukes started 10-0 last year before losing to App State at home with College GameDay in attendance. The next week they took out their frustration on Coastal Carolina, winning 56-14.

ACC women’s college soccer action continues Thursday night as No. 25 Virginia hosts NC State.

NC State will take a trip to Charlottesville on Thursday night for an ACC matchup against No. 25 Virginia as the Wolf Pack look to pull off the upset. NC State has struggled a bit this year and bring a two-game losing streak into Thursday’s contest. The team is 3-8-2 overall and is still winless in ACC play at 0-4-1. Last week, the Wolf Pack hosted Boston College. While they were able to keep the game close, the Wolf Pack ultimately fell in a 2-1 defeat. The lone goal was scored by Jade Bordeleau in the 55th minute to even the score at 1-1, but the Eagles were able to put in the game winner with 14 minutes remaining on the clock. Olivia Pratapas played the full game in net for NC State and made two saves, but it wasn’t enough and the team was forced to walk away with another conference loss.

The Cavaliers got off to a strong start this season, quickly climbing the rankings to No. 2 by the time conference play began. Things have been cooling off for Virginia, however, and after four straight losses, the Cavaliers will look to get back on track Thursday night with a win on Senior Night. In its last match, the team took on No. 2 Duke (now No. 1), playing to a 3-1 loss on the road. The Blue Devils were able to put three goals in the net before Virginia’s Meredith McDermott finally scored, but with that goal coming in the 80th minute, it was too big of a deficit for the team to make up. Victoria Safradin saw 13 shots in the game with five being on frame and she was able to make two saves in the contest.

Both Virginia and NC State desperately need to get back in the win column as there are only five games remaining in the regular season. The last time these two programs met was last season. As it began to wind down NC State earned a 2-1 victory at home.

Thursday could see some rainy and very windy continues for an SEC matchup between No. 14 Auburn and Alabama. As Hurricane Milton covers the state of Florida, the weather could play a major factor in Thursday night’s game, but with two strong squads, the game should still be a competitive one. The Crimson Tide bring an overall record of 7-3-4 and a conference record of 0-1-4 into Thursday’s matchup. The team’s last time on the pitch resulted in a tough 2-0 loss to Kentucky at home on Friday. Coralie Lallier and Ellie Lanyi shared responsibilities in net with both goals being scored against Lallier in the first half. With such strong defense in the second, Lanyi was unchallenged.

How to Watch Finland vs. Republic of Ireland: Stream UEFA Nations League Live, TV Channel

The Republic of Ireland and Finland are each chasing their first points of the UEFA Nations League when they face-off on Thursday.

Heimir Halgrimsson is hoping the third time proves to be the charm as he looks to bank his first win as Republic of Ireland manager when he and his team face Finland in Helsinki on Thursday. Not only have the Boys In Green lost both of their matches under the Icelandic boss to date, but they’ve yet to even get a goal over the line following identical 2-0 defeats to England and Greece in September. Neither of these teams has yet to register a competitive win so far in 2024, and it’s already looking like a straight shootout between this duo to decide who will face automatic Nations League relegation.

The new format of the Nations League assures the last-place finisher in any pool of a drop down to the level below, while third place at least faces a playoff to decide its fate.

With England and Greece both off to perfect starts after two rounds of the tournament, the race to the bottom already looks evident, as Finland and the Republic of Ireland play catch-up.

Only four months have passed since the Irish recorded an impressive friendly win over Hungary, but that game accounted for the only goals scored by the team in six outings this calendar year.

New Republic of Ireland manager Halgrimsson was asked about the absence of Tottenham right-back Matt O’Doherty, and his answer suggested there will be a strong focus on youth in the phase to come.

And those young guns will have their chance to impress against the Finns, who have won the last two meetings with the Boys In Green.

How to Watch England vs. Greece: Stream UEFA Nations League Live, TV Channel

Greece is targeting its first win over England when the two teams meet in the UEFA Nations League on Thursday.

A top-of-the-table clash pits undefeated England against a Greece team that’s also won 2-for-2 heading into its UEFA Nations League clash at Wembley Stadium on Thursday. Group 2 is the only pool in Nations League B that has two teams yet to drop a point thus far in the competition, but only one among the pair can continue their perfect start following their meeting on Matchday 2. Victory at the home of English soccer would be particularly meaningful for Greece considering it has yet to notch a single win over the Three Lions in their 53-year history of facing one another.

After dropping down to the second tier of the Nations League in shock circumstances, England is on a redemption trail to regain a spot among the elite.

Lee Carsley started his reign as England boss with a 2-0 win against the Republic of Ireland, then followed that result up with an identical win over Finland last month.

Harry Kane celebrated his 100th cap with both goals against the latter last time out, dismissing any rumors suggesting he may no longer be the man to lead England’s line.

Greece has beaten the exact same opponents while also failing to concede a goal, except its goal difference is in fact superior after trouncing the Irish 3-0.

More than two years have passed since the Pirate Ship last recorded four wins in a row, but that’s the prize awaiting Greece if it manages to topple the Euro 2024 runner-up in London.

After disappointing at Euro 2024, Luciano Spalletti’s Italy is looking like a renewed force and making up for lost time in the UEFA Nations League.

The four-time world champions got their campaign up and running with a 3-1 triumph over France in Paris, where a 30th-minute equalizer courtesy of Federico Dimarco was the highlight of the evening:

Italy followed that up with a 2-0 victory over Israel last time out and already sit three points clear at the top of Group A2, and two wins from this international break will put any notion of relegation to bed.

Belgium, on the other hand, surrendered 2-0 in France last time out and needs a win in Rome to revive its hopes of advancing.

A win over Israel in its opener accounts for the country’s only Nations League win to date, but Domenico Tedesco’s side will need to rack up some points against the big guns to avoid a bottom-two finish.

Last season the Huskies finished just 16-15 overall. That included two lopsided losses to the Bruins with the first match decided in straight sets and the second in four sets. In both matches the Bruins controlled the tempo and momentum from the very beginning and never relinquished the leads that they built.

This season the Huskies have been considerably better as a team. They are just three wins from tying last season’s win total in half the matches and have the opportunity to get in the win column against the Bruins for the first time since the 2022 season.

Molly Wilson and Alexis Haury have led the offense with 305 and 230 assists, respectively setting up a well balanced offensive attack. All season those two have made the Huskies formidable with just one loss and only two matches that needed a fifth set to come away with a win.

For eight years Riley would post pictures and actively share on social media that she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Over those years she leaned more and more into the lie, fundraising for her treatment, scamming supporters, and playing on the kindness of others that wanted to help someone in need.

She even went as far as to host in-person fundraising events where she lied directly to those supportive people donating to her supposed treatment. This series details her scam and story as a cautionary tale of how scammers take advantage of good willed people online and in person.

Over the last two seasons the teams have played 16 games total between the regular season, In-Season Tournament, Play-In Tournament and the playoffs ,with Golden State holding a 9-7 edge. Of those 16 games, 11 were decided by 10 points or less with six coming down to one possession in the end. Stephen Curry started off the preseason with nine points, shaking off the rust off the offseason and the long summer where he helped lead Team USA to a gold medal. Golden State started the preseason with a gritty win over another divisional rival in the Los Angeles Clippers and look to make it two in a row.

Lindy Waters III (15 points) and Moses Moody (12 points) led the team off the bench as the only two players to score in double figures. They were also only two of three players for Golden State, a renowned three-point shooting team, to make multiple shots from deep.

For Sacramento this is the team’s preseason debut. The Kings are coming off a disappointing season where they won a Play-In Tournament game against Golden State, but missed the playoffs overall after losing to the New Orleans Pelicans.

During the offseason Sacramento took a huge swing, making a move for All-Star DeMar DeRozan in a three-team trade sending Harrison Barnes and Chris Duarte out to the San Antonio Spurs and Chicago Bulls, respectively. Now the team has De’Aaron Fox, Domantas Sabonis and DeRozan as primary playmakers who have the ability to score 30 points or lead the offense as a playmaker this season.

Towns is coming off his eighth straight season averaging over 20 points per game and fifth straight season making at least two three-pointers per game. He gives New York a new wrinkle to the offense as a floor-spacing big man who can contribute to a great team defense like he did over the last two seasons with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

For Bridges, he is one of the most adaptable players in the NBA. He was an elite role player for the Phoenix Suns for four seasons, including a trip to the NBA Finals in 2021, before spreading his wings as a go-to scorer for the last season and a half with the Brooklyn Nets. The combination of Bridges and Towns make New York one of the most fascinating teams heading into this season.

Utah moves from Arizona where the Coyotes were unable to secure arena funding selling to Utah Jazz owner Ryan Smith who added Dylan Guenther to the roster on an eight-year, $57 million deal to play alongside Logan Cooley and add another scoring weapon to the talented Clayton Keller who comes into this season off consecutive 30-plus goal seasons.

Bedard, the number one overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, led Chicago in goals and assists despite missing most of January with a broken jaw. The 19-year-old center will be paired on the Blackhawks top line with wingers Ilya Mikheyev and Teuvo Teravainen who signed with Chicago in the offseason.

Though not technically an expansion franchise, Utah has 14 players on tonight’s roster who played for Arizona last season alongside coach Andre Tourigny who saw a 13-point improvement between his first and second years at the helm of the Coyotes franchise. Given the successes of other recent expansion clubs in Vegas and Seattle, it is not out of the realm of possibility Utah makes the postseason this year.

Chicago finished last season 32nd in the NHL with 178 goals scored and ended with the fourth most goals allowed missing out on the playoffs for the fourth consecutive seasons.

How to Watch 2024 NB3 Collegiate Match Play, Day 1: Stream College Golf Live, TV Channel

Four colleges come to Twin Warriors to take part in the 2024 NB3 Collegiate Match Play on Tuesday afternoon.

College golf is center stage on Tuesday afternoon in the first day of the 2-24 NB3 Collegiate Match Play event. The two-day, nationally broadcast NB3 Matchplay event starts Tuesday morning at Twin Warriors. The event pits four college golf programs — men’s and women’s teams from the University of New Mexico, New Mexico State, Stanford and Texas. It was intentionally scheduled this week with the start of the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta with the hopes of it being an advertisement for New Mexico with a big time, national sporting event on the ground and a picturesque international tradition in the sky.

The Golf Channel will be broadcasting six hours of the event Tuesday and Wednesday with analysts Ryan Burr and Begay, at least when Begay isn’t wearing one of the several dozen other hats he had to don — including as a welcoming host to Pueblo dignitaries, the four schools, viewers at home and to the fans from around New Mexico he hopes come out to support the event, even if they have no rooting interest.

Notah Begay III is the brainchild behind this new event. “I just tried to find a way to basically utilize my various platforms,” he said in describing the roots of this week’s first-of-its-kind college golf event. “I play golf at the highest level, I’m in broadcast television and I care deeply about New Mexico. This was just a convergence of all those things.

“The primary roadblocks that you find in our state, I find, is that there’s a culture of not believing we can achieve. I wholeheartedly believe in the people of the state, especially our youth. I’ll do everything I can to provide as much opportunity as I can through my nonprofit work, through the support of educational systems, through putting together events like this.

“And with everything that’s happening in the world and social media, we as the consumers of content, sort of overlook things from time to time. And I just don’t want people to overlook the fact that we have a wonderful thing happening next week, and just to come be a part of it.”
